I will be starting on PD in three weeks. I love swimming and I also love, after a hard days work to soak in my hot tub. I understand that with the proper precautions in and the appropriate pool, I can go swimming. Is this also true with hot tubs?

Hi there. You will want to ask your nurses at the center, but mine told me that a chlorinated pool was okay, but no lake or ocean swimming.

Public hot tubs are OUT-but your doc may okay you to take an occasional dip in your OWN hot tub

Peace!

OCEAN SWIMMING IS OK BUT MOST HOT TUBS ARE OUT UNLESS ITS YOUR OWN AND YOU KNOW THAT IS IS PROPERLY MAINTAINED.. YOU CAN GET COLOSTOMY BAGS AT A DRUG STORE AND IF PROPERLY APPLIED YOU CAN KEEP THE EXIT SITE DRY. AS SOON AS YOU GET OUT,CLEAN THE SITE WITH BETADINE AND DRY WITH A STERILE GAUZE. KEEP IN MIND THAT A WARM MOIST SITE IS A PERFECT BREEDING GROUND FOR BACTERIA.
Peace!
