Are you using any new fistula needles that meet OSHA compliance? If so, what are you using and how are they working out.

Thanks

We have used the Medisystem needles since July of last year, and so far prefer those needles over any other. We've tried the platypus and nipro needles also. The staff liked the ease of withdrawing the nipro needles, but they have been recalled. The platypus needles were harder for the staff to get used to, and eventually they all stopped using the protective cover because they couldn't really get the hang of it and ended up with lots of blood on the patient, the chux pad, and themselves. If you call the companies, they'll be glad to send samples to your unit to try. Medisystems has a nice set of instructional videos on their needles, and cannulation techniques for fistulas and grafts. Good in-service material!
