Please go out and get a copy of the Feb 6th Reader's Digest.

The issue has a special section about being at risk of kidney disease. One of the major problems of new ESRD pt's is the late referrals and thus late access creations.

An editor at Reader's Digest watched her husband die while on the heart transplant waiting list. She now volunteers on the NKF Public Education Committee (I am also a member) and worked for 2 years to make this issue a reality. Please go out a get a copy.

Share it with the dialysis staff you work with and also share it with the patients, and where you think it might help someone find out they are at risk for kidney disease (churches, local organizations, hair salons, local MD offices) Spread the word about the issue and help us fight renal disease!!!!

We need to spread the word about kidney disease- we owe it to our patients, our families and even we could have kidney disease!!!!

I am so proud of the editor that made this happen. She has turned such a tragic loss of her husband ( a young African-American father and husband) into efforts to help others. Our patients and their families are my heroes and remind me why I became a nurse!!! Help spread the word!!!
