What monitoring techniques do you use in your patient care? Venous pressures (dynamic or static), arterial pressures, access flow rates,HctLine or Transonics, physical exam, clearances (KT/V or URR)or recirulation rates?

Monthly URRs are done. If a change in clearance, then I evaluate their trends in VP, reuse, problems with treatment. If everything is stable and subsequent URR are still <65%, then may check % recirc, then veiw access radiologically.
Not only are we evaluating and maintaining adequate access, but validating adequacy of treatment.

That's great you are using a monitoring tool-the only problem with just using URR or KT/V is it can be a late indication of an access problem and a change can also be related to so many other treatment related causes. Do you use any other routine monitoring like physical exam of the access each treatment? Does your staff know what to screen for in a physical exam (PTFE and Fistula)? What about what to look for with the cannulation? Thanks for the comments!!
