We have a new acute unit in our community (only one) with three outpt dialysis facilities. We really only have one vascular surgeon the nephrologists use for grafts, fistulas, and cvc's. Our vascular surgeon would like to have an access nurse b/c of the growing numbe of pts on dialysis and their various access needs. How do other communities provide this service?

Not nearly enough.
I congratulate your vascular surgeon on his or her foresight. The only places I know that currently use Vascular Access Coordinators are those that have spoken on that topic at meetings. One is Emory University in Atlanta and another is somewhere in Peoria. IL. I forget what the name of the group was. i believe it was affiliated with a hospital. I am sure there are more, but like I said, not nearly enough.
