I read some earlier messages pertaining to arterial and venous pressures. A message by TecDude mentioned the Baxter and staff clamping the arterial monitoring line.
We use the Baxter machine which monitors arterial post-pump. What is the effect of clamping the arterial post pump monitoring line on the Baxter machine?

Thanks

Janice,
I tried to e-mail Techdude to ask him to answer this- but his e-mail is no longer working. The post pump AP tells you the pressure within the hemodialyzer (from the pump to the dialyzer). This pressure was used in the old days to help identify clotting in the hemodialyzer. It will not hlep you with access problems. This was a much bigger issue with the old non volume controlled machines when we used TMP only. with the new machine you get a TMP alarm the helps to identiy dialyzer clotting. At ASN the newest Baxter machine shown has a pre-pump AP. The move in the industry is towards all pre-pump AP and to use the monitoring not clamp it off.
Techdude had posted a message in the past about the Baxter machines and the need to keep the post pump AP open and working- I just don't remember all the technical issues related to the Baxter machines. We can try to post this question under the tech section and see if one of the machine experts will answer it for us.
