Is is better to remove only part of the graft rather than the entire thing? The infection is now gone but part of graft where the abyss broke is still open. What effects will removing only part of the graft have on my body. By the way, graft is not usuable. It clotted completly.

Graft segments only can be removed- the entire graft should be removed if the infection is present in any of the remaining graft- The DOQI Guideline 24 states
A. Local infection of a dialysis graft should be treated with approprate antibiotics based on culture results and by incision/resection of the infected portion of the graft (evidence)
B. Extensive infection of a dialysis graft should be treated with antibiotics and total resection of the graft. (evidence)
Was your infection very localized or in a general area of the graft? Have you been back to have the surgeon to have the wound re-evaluated.
