Graft segments only can be removed- the entire graft should be removed if the infection is present in any of the remaining graft- The DOQI Guideline 24 states
A. Local infection of a dialysis graft should be treated with approprate antibiotics based on culture results and by incision/resection of the infected portion of the graft (evidence) B. Extensive infection of a dialysis graft should be treated with antibiotics and total resection of the graft. (evidence) Was your infection very localized or in a general area of the graft? Have you been back to have the surgeon to have the wound re-evaluated. Good luck- what access are you currently using? |
