We use Chlorhexidine routinely, unless Pt. sensitive, then we use Amuchina. Our dressings are Tegaderm I.V./Mepore.

Chlorprep has alcohol, so be careful on the permcaths that aren't supposed to have any alcohol on them. I am working on procedures for a new unit and have done a lot of research and questioned a lot of reps and most of them prefer a preparation w/o alcohol. Also be careful of the new cleanser with chlorhexadine. It has not been approved by the companies who manufacture catheters...it only has .5% and they recommend 2%.
