Hi Iam doing a Research Proposal on when to cannulate a new arteriovenous fistula. I have been able to get some articles relating to this. Is there anyone who can guide me to more information on this subject. All will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks

http://www.fistulafirst.org/ There is more stuff here than you really want to know. You can also check out any of the ESRD Networks. All have something on fistula first.

I have been running on dialysis for over 30 years now and still have the same fistula. The biggest problem I see with having one is that they are used too soon. I was told Doctors don't get paid for the operation until the patient starts on dialysis so they do it too close to the time it will be needed. I have no idea if that is true. Patients should have enough education to know that it should not be used for at least a month, maybe a couple months to make sure it is fully mature. Unfortunately most dialysis patients only have a very vague idea of what is going on and show no interest in learning,
