Can anyone out there please tell me the rationale behind using Betadine pledgets for hemostasis post needle removal? A LOT of our techs do this "because it works" but no one knows why. I don't like it because Betadine can grow Pseudomonas if contaminated--I don't like it on grafts after needle removal. Chemically, it can't be that much different from alcohol which delays hemostasis. Can anyone give a real rationale other than "it works"? Thanks!
