Is anyone doing 3mg/50cc NACL infusions for hemodialysis catheter clotting.
Too expensive with the new bundling nightmare. Though if you think about it, heparin only makes us feel better. Without the liver, the heparin sits in the catheter doing nothing. Small amounts of heparin constantly infuses intop the patient keeping them Heparinized? increasing the chance of Thrombocytopenia. We are going to try the new "closed system" catheter caps that only require a saline flush. They cost $3.00 per tx but you save 24 cents a cc of heparin at 6 cc a tx and the cost of 2 syringes with needle. Infection will decrease due to closed system. Anyone tried them yet?
