I had a transplant done 9/2/98, and would like to have my A/V fistual removed. It seems to be bigger now and it bothers me (in appearance) Is it possible to have it removed? Has anyone heard of it being "un-done"? Thanks.

Pam- congratulations on your transplant!! Wish you make years of making "good pee"!! But a transplant is a treatment option and can at some point fail. If you have a working fistula and it has no medical reason to be ligated- then keep it!!! When it is not used over the next few months the appearance will fade and many not look so bad. The fistula can not be removed- but can be ligated at the arterial inflow or shut down by surgery. I would not want to see any patient loss a working fistula - it will it be there if you should need it in the future. (hopefully you will not- but it could once again be your lifeline if your transplant fails).
