my spare parts management system was free to me. it consists of a cardboard box with pretty much everything i might need that i cary in my truck. i cover three clinics spread ovemr 200 miles. while i do keep alot of parts in each clinic, stuff happens and i hate down machines.my company would prefer i order needed parts overnight. i was once chastised for overnighting a $3.00 part. i pointed out, with documentation, that this was the prefered method. i was then instucted to order extas to avoid this problem in the future. my order was at first denied then altered to 1 each, which i immediately used upon receipt. i again ordered more. my boss eventually contacted me and wanted to know what was going on. i related the scenarios, with documentation. then i told him that if those airheads in management didn't leave the parts ordering to those of us that knew what was going on, they could come on out here and fix it themselves, and to bring there own bailing wire and duct tape, because my order had been denied. he told me later on that he relayed my instructions up the ladder word for word. they leave me alone now

I am spread out between four clinics, within in a 100 mile range. The company that I work for allows us to keep all of our parts on the truck so that I only have one inventory to keep track of. As far as an inventory software, I just made up a simple Excel template that seems to work fine. I broke it up into sections depending on what machine that it is for. Each machine section has a column with part number, description, quantity, and price.
