If PCT bent the power plug would you replace the whole power supply? Or the power cord from Fresenius? Or put your own end on the cord? I ran into this same problem with another company where the product specialist told me the part that needed fixing cost them $1 but they only do exchanges that cost $809. He used the magic statement "they didn't want to shift liability to the biomeds” and that they tested the part after repairing it. It was a photo sensor that detects if the cassette is in or not, which should be yes it working or no it doesn’t. The funny thing is in their manual of approved repairs there items that are a lot more involved and dangerous to the patient but the profit margin on the repair exchange would be very low. I think as a community we should be able to come together and demand that companies give us access and procedures to reasonable repairs. Also we shouldn’t have to fear legal issues on repairs that are within a tech’s skill set (replacing brushes), but that can be a slipper slope. How do you judge a tech’s skill set? Replacing brushes ok, but replacing surface mount component not? Personal I have the tools to replace the brushes and the experience, I don’t have the tools and experience to replace a surface mounted component.

Just my opinion
I can see both sides

If you have the tools and the experience that will fall under answer #4 "I know what I'm doing"
A lot of us are brainwashed by our employers, pushing us to save money at whatever cost, but dont expect them to be there for you when it goes to court

I agree with you that we should come together and demand procedures on how to repair these items

Can you petition a company? I'm sure you can but will it do anything? Some companies have customer advocates, does anyone know if Fresenius has this department? Any other ideas?

I replaced the BP motor brushes starting from the gear end, it was easy but now it sounds like a weed eater gasoline engine. I think I have ruined the tachometer, But anyways Ill just go back to ordering DC motor with tachometer.

It seems like the old H blood pump motors were much more reliable than the new K motors.

Almost all (but not all) the H bp motors I dealt with lasted up to 20,000 hrs or more. I have had to replace three (out of 14) bp motors for K machines that are 2-3 years old.

Quality took a nosedive with the new design in my opinion.

still cant rebuild those bp's??? its very simple guys...use the wheel puller like i said before and then it will be kind of loud or will only work for a few weeks... the trick is to take the black top off the tach itself and put it to the center...you will know what im talking about when you do it. BEEN DOIN THIS FOR ALMOST 2YRS.

JE Been doing liable stuff for 2 years. Congrats! Do you own the company? If so you saved yourself a ton of cash. If not and something goes array the company you work for will throw you under the bus and keep on rolling. Get it in writing from the National Area Biomed person. See if he is willing to do such. Cover yourself! Sure you can do it and that is great... but don't make yourself liable otherwise. Get it signed and in writing then rebuild to your heart's content...

Bio....I agree with you why not just buy a new motor instead of cutting corners...my experience with cutting corners is that it will come back to hunt you every time. If you are
working for one of the major Dialysis companies. You are not getting a major Bonus anyway for saving a few dollars. The owners will not back you in event that something happen with one of there Patients. They will protect themselves.
