I have a tech that I work with that does everything except for sticking needles and putting the patient on treatment. She does everything else, sets up the machines/ro's all over the hospital, checks our numbers on our water system. do all the disinfecting of portable ro's, weighs the patient, gets the patients temp. QUESTION Does she need to be certified?

Is that tech in biomed tech or pct?

The answer is yes regardless if Biomed, PCT or even reuse with regard to setting up the machines. Anybody who sets up a dialysis machine for a pt treatment does have to be certified.

Yes, she does. She could get her PCT certification or Biomed certification. She does have till April 2010.
Lisa, Don't sweat the test. Since it became mandatory in some states, and soon in all, standards are lower and test is MUCH easier than it use to be(ask anyone who took it more than 10 yrs. ago). We took it then because we wanted to not because we had to. Thank the F-word and the kool-aid drinkers for that, after all , how much of thier budget goes for education?

I beg to differ.. I just took the BONENT CHT test about a month ago... That was the hardest test I have ever taken.. Alot of Trick questions. I let my boss look at the practice exam I took online and he has been certified for 15 years now and he said it look as hard as ever. The only difference is that when he took it he had 200 questions instead of 150. The one who went with me to take the test was a EMT before his 10 yrs. dialysis experience. He said as well that it was the hardest test he has ever taken. The Standards are not lower I think they have cut some reuse questions from the test, but by no means is the standard lowered. We have had nurses that have recently gone and taken the test and failed. Saying that it was harder than their state board test. If you study hard and know your job well then you can pass it with no problems. But for someone with only a year or two of experience I suggest you study very hard.

To answer any of these questions LOOK AT THE CONDITIONS OF COVERAGE.They spell it out very cleary.I still have techs who think they are going to be grandfathered in,or they are waiting for new changes etc etc .TAKE THE EXAMS NNCC,BONENT,NNCO ANY OF THESE

I also have taken the BONENT exam. I by no means think it was that hard. It all comes down to preparation.Study for it. Either you know it or you dont.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the reasons that certification by any of the testing organizations (BONENT, NNCC, NNCO)will be more beneficial than testing by the other organizations.
