Why are F-80's referred to as the cadillac of dialyzers? How do they compare to a F-70NR which I am now on and to a F-8 which I was previously on?

Lance,

The F80 has arguably the best potential for ultrafiltration (fluid removal) and solute clearance (urea, creatinine, phosphate, B12, etc.). It has been used mostly in reuse facilities. The F70NR (non-reuse) is a close to comparable alternative for ultrafilitration and clearance. The F8 has comparable clearance characteristics, but not the same potential for ultrafiltration.

There is a new OPTIFLUX NR series (160,180, & 200) which offer perhaps the best clearance characteristics, with high-flux ultrafiltration potential. These dialyzers are not designed for reuse.

Will the OPTIFLUX NR series dialyzers only be used in Fresenius units?

Lance,

As far as I know, Fresenius will sell to any provider who wants to purchase them.

My doctor doesn't seem to think units other then Fresenius will be able to purchase these dialyzers. How does an OPTIFLUX compare in cost to a F-70NR?

Pricing may vary. It will depend on how many a provider contracts to purchase. A call to Fresenius may provide the best info. 800-662-1237.
