Has anybody out there been using fresenius' new NR70 cartridge. How does it compare to the F8. I've read the tech specs and to my uneducated view they seem the same. Any help?

they are similar in clearances but have a much higher KUF.....the Fresenius Opitflux dialyzers are the best....high KUF and the best clearances I've seen.

We use the F7NR and F70NR's. The clearances are very good. The 70's are capable of removing a lot of fluid, so using them on patients with small fluid gains either gives you a lot of alarms or you replace a lot of fluid. I like the Optiflux also but they are just a little more expensive. One interesting thing we did notice with the Optiflux: not once did it clot. Wish I could use them exclusively!

I'm newly on a F70-NR. So far my dialyzer isnt clearing very well. I'm on the same amount of heaparin I was before and my chambers clear well, but not the dialyzer. Anyone know why? I'm a low fluid gainer. Honey what do you mean by it replaces a lot of fluid?

KUF is Co-Efficient of Ultrafiltration the ease is which a dialyzer has the ability to remove fluid. Dialyzer not clearing well can be a whole lot of reasons. Priming technique is one of them. Loading dose of heparin? Maintenance dose? etc.....

Nina,
Another way to think of UF in very simple terms is that the higher the UF the more "porous" so more fluid comes out easier. For people who gain a small amount of weight, normal saline usually has to be give during the treatment to prevent the patient from going under their weight or the TMP alarm constantly sounding.
