Hi, all...

I have a renatron that is not failing any tests, however, it isn't putting enough sterilant in the dialyzer. Any help out there? It's been a while since I worked on these things. And yes, there is plenty of sterilant in the container.

a little more info would be helpful, but here are a few possibilities: if it is happening to all the dialyzers it is the renatron, conversely, if it's just the occasional dialyzer it could be do to clotting within the dialyzer, especially the headers. The renatron could have a cracked hydroblock-check for leaks.

Also, the most probable reason is a stuck check valve in the uptake tube; replacing the valve or entire tube assembly may do the trick.

Hope this helps, let us know

Check your calibration points (zero/407). Or As mentioned, if the occasional reprocessed dialyzer is the problem, could be the reaction to heavy blood content and the Renalin solution within the dialyzer. If the case, preclean the dialyzer and allow to sit for 20 or so minutes, then reprocess, allowing for clot removal. Furthermore, you'll notice that it is always the same dialyzers (patients) that require preprocessing, and your reuse numbers should improve.

Can you be a little more specific about what you mean by the Renatron not putting enough sterilant in the dialyzer? Are the strips not turning positive or are the headers not full enough.

In step 47 the Renaton does a double check of the Renalin drawn up in step 45 to make sure it is the correct amount. If the machine is calibrated correctly you should never have an issue with dialyzers not testing positive.

Thanks for the info everyone. All calibration points were within specs. The reuse tech changed out the Renalin and the tubing post-checkvalve wasn't secured.

Problem solved!
