I've been looking for Bleach 6%. I found that clorox makes one with 6.15% Sodium Hypochlorite but it also contains Sodium Hydroxide <1%.
Is this safe for Hemodialysis machines (internal) and general disinfection?
I'm not familiar with Sodium Hydroxide and I do not know if it is OK to use.
Anybody using it?
Thanks

hi guest111,

I do believe that all bleach has a small amount of sodium hydroxide (commonly known as lye) in it. It is used in the manufacturing process.

Sodium hypochlorite is NaOCl. Sodium hydroxide is NaOH. There is nothing different in the Na in NaOCl than NaOH. OH causes the solution to have a high pH. You need a high pH to keep the chlorine dissolved in the solution.

The NaOH will rise out with the NaOCl. If you want to monitor for the NaOH, you can monitor the pH of the water. But, I would not worry about the NaOH.
