I don't know of a policy or procedure for that. BUT, if you do disinfect them make sure to clamp off the hose so that no fluid gets into the bladder! If it does, when the module deflates the cuff the fluid will be pulled back into the module and may ruin it. Staff have been known to submerge cuffs in bleach solutions to clean them and I have found modules that had bleach in them.

Every cuff gets wiped down with 1 1:100 bleach solution after treatment. All MRSA patients have their own cuff. I couldn't agree more with Ktech. I've replaced at least two colin modules (these are on Fresenius machines)where bleach had got in and blew the module. A very expensive cuff cleaning.

I read the fresenius operator's manual and it says not to use chlorine solutions on the cuff. It says to use commercial soaks. Now if the cuff needs to be disinfected between patients, how can we do it in fast and afficient way. Any ideas?
