I've got an Osmo23g with a Tonkaflo QS2818. The first pump burned out on me in June of last year (two years in operation). It was supposedly because I wasn't using a CIP pump for membrane cleaning/dsfct.

I replaced the RO pump, and bought a CIP pump which I now use relgiously. Now, 18 months later, I'm on DI waiting for another new RO pump to arrive.

Has anyone had similar experiences with this particular pump living such a short life?

dfrock,

I have 8 RO machines with Tonkaflo pumps of various sizes and have never had a pump go bad. The majority of the machines are between 10 and 15 years old.

None of my machines are 23G's, they are all 19C's, Zyzatech V, or GEM.

dfrock,
I have a 23G with a tonkaflow pump that went out about a year and a half ago. I was told the same thing about the need for the CIP pump, which I purchased and use now. The replacement pump that I installed lasted less than 90 days, and I had to buy a 2nd pump. I just heard from Osmonics regarding the faulty pump that they sold me first, and even though it was faulty when I got it, they of course, are saying it was something done in the facility that caused the malfunction. My original pump lasted 8 years, so can't really complain about that, hopefully this one will last at least as long.

I have 2 23G's one was built in 1994 and the other in 1995 and have had no problems with the pumps. I have always ways used a CIP pump since they were installed. The 94 unit does have grease fittings between the motor and pump that need to be greased every 4000 hrs or so.

Thanks, everybody. I spoke with Marcor while they were here installing the new pump. He mentioned that he's replaced pumps after 13 months of operation, and others after 10 years of operation.

Ruling out feed pressure, the only other factor could be the amount of times it's kicking on throughout the day. I may look into either a larger storage tank, or lengthening the distance between the float switches. I'm discontinuing reuse soon, that'll help as well.

Had a Tonkaflo pump fail after five months of operation on a new 23G.
