My ph pre-carbon, post softner, is 9.2
This seems too high to me. Our limits are (6-9 pH).
Our pH post carbon, feeding the R.O. is 8.6.
Should we have something in our water system to lower the pH? The dialysate makes the pH neutral at 7.00.

Thanks

Our incoming pH is around 9.5. We use an acid injection system to lower it to around 7.0. We use phosphoric acid. The RO pH is around 5.3 and the dialysate is 6.8 to 7.0.

From what I understand lowering the pH helps your carbon tanks the most. It inhibits bacteria growth and helps the carbon work more efficiently. I could be wrong.

Guest,

Isn't a pH of 5.3 for your R.O. too low?

Not sure. I believe the pH that matters is the final dialysate. Ours is around 7.0.

Well if that's the case then we should be fine. Because our final dialysate is 7.0. But why would parameters be set for pre-ro pH? Thanks

Like I said earlier, it helps your carbon work better and last longer. It also helps inhibit bacterial growth in your carbon tanks. This all in turn helps your RO run more efficient.

How much is the injection system? How much does it usually cost to keep up/run? What kind of monitoring does it require?

I too am interested in injection. How much is the cost? Anyone have a trending log on cost?

I'm not sure what the initial system cost but the acid is around $60.00 for a 2 liter bottle. I usually go through 2 bottles a month. This is mixed with water of course and diluted. We use what is referred to as a "Dumb System". There is one that is called a "Smart System" that monitors the pH and injects only what is needed. You set the perameters. It will probably cost more at first but will most likely pay for itself. There are also cheaper acids you can use.

Better check out the new conditions for coverage. There are a lot of requirements when using these systems....

The only requirements I know of is a few more checks regarding incoming pH and RO pH but we already test for these anyway. You also have to log when you mix acid and label the container but thats the same with everything.
