Can someone tell me how much a hydrometer reading may vary given a difference in temperature? The certification that comes with it says it's calibrated +/- 1 at 60 degrees. How much can or would the value vary at 70 or 80 degrees??

Matt,

Your assignment today is to take bicarb solutions of different temperatures and see how they are effected..LOL.

Here is a link to a correction table for water http://hbd.org/brewery/library/HydromCorr0992.html the difference is rather significant, whether its the same for bicarb or not I have no idea. Your best bet may be to do your own testing.

Let us know what you find out, this is a GREAT question and could possibly explain some conductivity problems people have.

LMAO!!! That was a well needed laugh, Chuck. Thanks!! You're awesome. I don't know what I'd do without you, sometimes. Thanks for being there for me. However, from the way it's looking, nobody can help me with the compensation for bicarb so I may end up doing my own testing afterall. I'll let y'all know what I find out.

BTW, where do you get this info?? You have some awesome resources!

Matt,

Like I tell my techs....I taught you everything you know....but not everything I know....do you expect be to give up all my secrets??...LOL

Seriously though, I did a Google search for "Hydrometer" then searched within results for "Temperature" and it was the first result listed.

LOL!! You seem to be quite the witty guy there, Chuck! I never really do searches for anything on the internet because it seems like I can't ever quite find what I'm looking for. I suppose if I use it more I'd become more familiar with it and have better results? I didn't know you could narrow down your searches like that. Thanks for the advice!
