If there was a suspected pyrogenic reaction, would you return the patient's blood?

The concept is that by returning the blood you are potentially putting MORE pyrogens into the patient, perhaps escalating their physiological response to the pyrogens. We never return the blood.

Check your protocol, same non-return policy for bllodleaks. RD-5 or 8 should give you insight as to AAMI recommendations.

I hope this assists you.
