I have a FMC 2008K thats been problematic for a month now. It all started with wacky conductivity and an intermittent low flow error. I found this to be a bad balancing chamber membrain. I did not have any new ones but found some in an older balancing chamber that I had lying around. After putting the membrains in, the problem went away for a couple of days. Now the problem is worse I have low flow errors cycling with high flow errors and the conductivity is either 17 or at 10. But these problems only happen when a pt. is on. I can run this thing in the shop all day long and no alarms at all. Any help out there?

I've already replaced the flow motor and pump head. I've calibrated the deair acid bicarb and uf pumps. I tried to calibrate the balancing chamber and the fluid discharge was 70mil. the machine wouldn't let me enter the number because it was too high. the highest setting is 63mil.

Thanks man, I'll try that tomorrow But I still don't understand why it runs fine in the shop but the minute I put a pt. on the thing goes haywire. I even ran a mock treatment for 3hrs and It didn't alarm conductivity 1 time...

I ran into a similar problem. I found valves 36 and 38 to be bad. My machine had about 16,000 hour on it.

This machine has roughly 18000 hrs. on it. I replaced the whole balancing chamber with one from another machine and the low/high flow errors went away. Now the damn conductivity wont go above 13.3. I re-calibrated De-air flow acid bicarb and uf pumps, checked loading pressure as well. any other suggestions?

Robb,

This sounds more like a valve on the BC intermittently failing. Try and monitor your valve output(s).

Didn't really read your last post very well -

Re-check your membranes to make sure they didn't slide a little. A torn or uneven membrane will cause this problem. Also could be a leak? Do a valve leak test. Do a BC volume test with your new BC assy.

I already measured the fluid volume of the b.c. it was almost right on 59 mil. will try a valve leak test thanks.

Hello all, I am asking this question in this area because we have never changed a membrane in the balance chamber. In fact I have checked with Fresenius Australia and no one has ever ordered one. Our machines are the 4008 and 5008 series units, fully made in Germany and I have had machine with 32000 hrs with no problem, Fresenius say the avg life is 35000 hrs. Our machines are heat disinfected 3 times a day and bleached once a week with 5% bleach and never seen a problem with a membrane. Can you explain why you change membranes, what causes them to fail in your 2008 series and not in the 4008 series, the BC is the same part. Many Thanks

I think that the difference is that we bleach our machines every other day. We alternate between heat and bleach. I don't know if the membrain part number is the same but I do know that the bleach is what ruins the integrety of the rubber membrains.

Been working on H and K machines for 15 +yrs & have never had to change a bc membrane either. Have machines now in service with 30,000hrs + with the original membranes. Heat disinfect daily and bleach once a week.
