I'm thinking about a late registration for the CBNT exam at the symposium in April. Has anyone taken it? Should I allow myself some more time to prepare?

The CNBT is a difficult but fair exam that relies on experience as well as pre-exam study. It is much more of an achievement exam than the BONENT exam.

That is not a true statement but just one person thoughts. The BONENT exam is an approved exam for several states that mandate any type of certification.

If "Mark H" is who I think he is, he has a biased opinion as he has a vested interest in the CNBT.
Thats not to say that the CNBT exam isn't any good. The BONENT is well rounded but its my understanding that the CNBT is more specialized.

Chuck W.and Concern,

Yes, I am who you think I am and bias to some may just be a different point of view. I was involved in the development of the CNBT test AND years ago in a re-write of the BONENT, and while I am currently not involved in either organization I do have a decent basis to make my comparisons. Both are fine exams. The clinical version of the NNCO exam is similar to the BONENT tech exam,
but it was the goal of the authors that it endeavor to test at a level commensurate with more experience in the field. The technical version of the NNCO exam, to the best of my knowledge, does not have an equivalent by BONENT. Does this make it a better exam? Not necessarily, but it is as stated by Chuck W, more specialized. The knowledge and experience of dialysis personnel should be constantly challenged and these exams are the best we have. That is my opinion.

Ok. I have my Bonent certification already. Now I'm looking for something that focuses a bit more on the bio-medical aspects of dialysis. Water, equipment, scientific concepts and so forth.

Dfrock,

The NNCO exam is what you are looking for; information is usually available in the dialysis trade magazine events calendars.
