I have had several 2008H deair pump heads disintegrate lately. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what has Fresenius' response been. They tell me not to worry because it's biodegradeable material. I am worried about patient safety if this is passed on to them.
If this is a blackish material it is likely the pump magnet that has shatterred a somewhat common occurance in older pumps with non-shrouded magnets, FMC has changed to a shrouded magnet in more recent machines. They do not sell the magnets alone, but we at Flo-Tec do. Often this is the only failure. Flo-Tec also offers cost saving Dialysate/Deareation gear pump rebuilding and associated spare parts to rebuild these pumps. Rebuilt pumps have a 1 year warranty with 2-day turn-around. We can be reached at www.dialysispumps.com or (800)335-6832. A complete catalog and pricing is available on our web-site and we can send you complete printed lit. I Hope This Will Help.

I have had one get to that point where you see it in the clear silastic tubing. I called FUSA and they told me that it would not harm the patient. However, I did take every piece of silatic tubing off and cleaned the inside of the tubing by pulling gauze attached to a wire through it. After that do a chemical (bleach)and heat disenfect just to keep things clean. The heat or bleach will not remove the carbon or will vinegar. As part of my 1,000 hr pm I inspect the dearation pump gearhead for cracks and replace the gearhead if you find one.
