Typical frequency for dialysis is 3 times per week. Why is this? Can any benefit be gained from only once per week?

In the case of dialysis treatments...more is better... It is easier on the body, because it acts more like your kidneys which work 24/7.

Also in general Medicare WILL NOT pay for more than 3X's/wk. Write your Congress person and Senator to get Bills HR1759 and S1303 passed

Thanks for your responses. I am beginning to understand better now. In the case of my father-in-law, he is going back on dialysis after a hiatus of 3 years. His kidney function is apparently borderline. He really hates having to spend half a day 3 times a week, not to mention the recovery time after each session. We were wondering if he went only once a week, could he get by?
