I would like some detailed information on the SERIM residual chlorine test strips (code number 5100) and the HiSense Total Chlorine "Yes/No" test strips (code number 5109). A copy of the insert supplied with each Serim bottle would be fine if someone have these available. If these test kits are suitable, I intend to use either of these to test for bleach residues after chemical disinfected and rinsing of dialysis machines prior to each dialysis session.
Does someone know if these test strips are certified to be suitable for use on our disinfectant which are the HOSPAL ECOSTER effervescent tablets? The active ingredients of this disinfectant is Di-chloro-S-triazine-trione sodium salt in solid form which releases hypochlorous acid once in solution. At the unit we use the European Pharmacopoeia standards for water used for diluting concentrated hemodialysis solutions. By these standards the maximum acceptable limit for free chlorine is of 0.1mg/l. I think that the best suited test strips would be the HiSense Total chlorine ones as these are sensitive down to 0.1mg/l of total chlorine. Any comments or suggestions? Thank you. |

If you want to measure residual chlorine levels (residual hypochlorous acid)as low as 0.1ppm in rinse solutions then the Serim HiSENSE Kit # 5109 is the proper test. This kit has a sensitivity of btween 0.05ppm and 0.1ppm (>95 % of solutions containing 0.05 ppm total chlorine give a Positive reaction. 100% with 0.1 ppm give a clear postive).
The Serim Residual Chlorine Test ( 5100, 5100A or 5100C) are slightly less sensitive, with a sensitivity of 0.25 ppm in the 30 second semi-quantitative test and 0.5 ppm in the 5 second qualitative test. Serim products are labeled for use for residual chlorine testing for any disinfectant which contains chlorine (hypochlorous acid being the correct chemical name for chlorine in solution). It appears you are somewhere in Europe. You can get Serim product information from RheoMed of Heppenheim Germany ( e mail r.gruette@rheomed.de. Or you can request Serim product information directly from Serim at customerservice@serim.com, Web Site - www.serim.com. Fax 1-574-266-6222. Ken Price Serim USA |
