I have been at privately owned facilities, and corporate owned facilities. Alot depends on your likes and dislikes about the "chief tech" position. In a privately owned you may end up being a jack of all trades, due to cost sometimes (most times) personnel are slow in coming. However, if it is a facility you are instrumental in opening you can design policies and such (which is interesting). Some of the better jobs for "true" technicians are with RCG, DaVita, and Gambro, they allow their technical people to learn and excel at what they are paid for; repairing equipment. Fresenius tends to get their "chief tech's" bogged down in a battle of "why did we use 3 sheets of toilet tissue per flush instead of two" not much tech work going on there (or so I hear). Just remember you can hurt yourself with the sharp end of the screwdriver.

Duties vary from clinic to clinic .Some Chief techs fix machines, while other clinics have machine techs ,or Bio-Med techs to do this.Others have inventory/reuse/water techs. Some clinics have the chief tech and the charge nurse on equal footing. It varies from clinic to clinic.I would check out each clinic throughly so you know your role before accepting it.
