As I have posted before I am pretty new to this and want to be doing things correctly. I am in the midst of writing some policies and making sure we have others. This led me to this post, how do you know what you should have policies on, is there a "list" somewhere? Anyway, I thought it might be helpful if the people on this forum could make a running list of what policies they have, not the actual policies themselves, but ones that are needed for inspections. I hope everyone can contribute, we are all in this together. I'll start.

1. Machine maintenance
2. Machine disinfection schedule
3. Central RO disinfection

Tonya,

If you have to write all the policies, I sure hope they are paying you well!

You will need 2 policy manuals, one Administrative and one Clinical.

Here are links to essentially Table of Contents for our manuals...

Administrative www.idfdn.org/Adman TOC.htm
Clinical www.idfdn.org/PCP TOC.htm

You may want to try to go to the NANT Symposium this year in Atlanta, we are having an day long pre-symposium workshop on "Ensuring a Successful Survey"

The links I posted above don't work because of the spaces, you will have to type them in to your browser.

Thank you, I could kiss you for helping except it tells me I am not authorized.

Tonya,

You have to type the address into your browser address bar, the links dont work because I put spaces in the file name.

Did all the above on my home computer, my daughters computer and this morning on my work computer just as you said...still says I am not authorized. Do you have a e-mail address? Maybe you could just fax me a copy then.

Chuck my dear don't forget those non disclosure agreements all of us good little indians must sign. Tonya, I am surprised your company doesn't have at least a skeleton of old procedures lying around! That's pretty scary...no support? I would bring that to your company's education division and ask them to give them to you. In this day and age not having written policies is CMS suicide!

We do have some policies, education division, that's funny. How is one to know if you have all the policies when there is no set standard or list that I know of. I'm not asking for the policies per say, just a list of what I should have. Thanks for your input though, it was a help.

Tonya,

I renamed the files so these links will work.

www.idfdn.org/AdmanTOC.htm

www.idfdn.org/PCPTOC.htm

That is exactly what I was looking for, nothing more. It's people like you who need to be here. Were pretty much all striving for the same thing, to do the best job we can, and if we can help each other out, why not. I believe most of us are here for that purpose with the exception of a few who like to create drama. Again thank you. Maybe some day I'll be able to contribute more.

Don't you have any bio med techs at your clinics that could help you. They should know what needs to be in the policies.

Yes, but they never took care of the machines. I am in a small in house acute program which use to be run by and outside company which we now took over. I am new here but have done dialysis before but not in the capacity I am now. As long as people like Chuck are willing to help, I will be more than ok. Just want all my ducks in a row as they say.

Tonya,

Like I said, I think you would really benefit from attending the NANT Symposium this year. The information you would get at the seminars is valuable but you would also learn a LOT in the lobby talking to other people and making contacts.

Writing policies and procedures is pretty serious business, especially for a person of limited experience and that has not performed an enormous task like this before.I don't know what state you are from, but our surveyers would start hanging paper if they found out your references were Renalweb discussion forums and not from knowledge from several decades of experience. Just a thought-that and liability you are assuming by writing your own policies

tonya,
get the policies in place; follow the policies; document your results, making sure they're within AAMI standards; and you'll do fine. chuck w is a good resource, i would ask for his input on how to prepare for inspections.
