Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to prolong the life of external dialysate filters.
I typically discover them leaking during heat disinfect, after they have sprayed water all over the floor. The problem is always the same. The little fingers that hold both halves together crack and leak.

Thanks,
Lumpy

How long are they lasting? They are only supposed to last for three months, or twelve bleach cycles. If they are leaking before then, I would make sure that the inlet water pressure regulator isn’t allowing too much pressure in the circuit.

Are you talking about an in-line dialysate filter like on an F? Or something else?

At first I thought it was the DiaSafe Plus, but now that I read it again, I think it is the post dialyzer filter.

I hope I don't sound clueless about this, but shouldn't RD52 and 510K obviate the need for a final dialysate filter? If there is a potential for the filter to have a weak point where it can leak, it sounds like overkill ending up killing the horse pushing the cart uphill. Please regard this as respectfully submitted.

The post dialyzer filter on the Fresenius machine has a screen filter, and is there to protect the machine, not the patient.

The in-line filter shouldn't fail that often. We replace them when they start to look really discolored. I find that when they start looking old and yellowed they break real easy. The nipple the hose is clamped to will break off. When I do the PM's, I look them over when I clean the filter screen. The only thing I ever find in the screen are black specks from Hydroblock Rod E falling apart on our old H machines. We replace Rod E and clean out the loading pressure regulator when we start to see the black stuff.

I am very sure that he is talking about the diasafe filter and it should not be blowing like that if you are replacing it every 3 months. The the only reason it should be blowing is if the TMP is jumping from time to time or if it is being put in chemical dwell and bleach is being left in it all the time. Is it just one machine or is it all machines in general? Is it the diasafe filter or the fitting that is coming loose? If you do diasafe filter integrity test every 2 weeks ,is it passing?

If it is the post dialysate filter housing that u are talking about. If it is a bag of the old white looking see through housings that you are using then throw the hole bag away. I found a bag of these in my tool box when I first started and they all was made from a softer plastic that would bend some when it got real hot. I am not sure if that was something that was recalled way back or what. But I trashed all of them and I have never seen any like it again.
