As I have mentioned previous, I am somewhat new and will be the only tech at a new acute unit which is being setup. I would like to know, and hopefully this may help some others also, what are the top reasons you have or know of for being cited by the state or JHACO. Please post so I know what to look for.
I've just gone through two JAHCO inspections at two separate acute programs. They seem to be focusing on documentation of PM's. They want to see how many hours the machine accumulated between PM's and what was done to the water systems if applicable. Also what type of water testing is being performed and what method. They also want to know what knowledge the clinician has of the systems.Hope this helps.

This helps more than you know...Let's keep it going. I have read the AAMI book, but talking to some local techs, they (AAMI and the state)are always looking for something and that something is what I hope to get out in this forum. I want to do the best job I can and be as prepared as I know how and hopefully this will help.
That "something" is anything that catches their eye...follow the manufacturers requirements religiously and document, document, document. Be very knowledgeable about your job, what you do and why you do it. Attend seminars, if you can. Become certified. Join NANT. In my experience with inspectors, with their questions, they are "feeling you out", your confidence, capabilities and knowledge. What would you do IF....kind of thing. The more you know, the more assured and capable you will be.

Hey, Here are some other valuable tips that will prepare you for a JAHCO inspection in a Acute dialysis setting. 1.Documentation is a key Factor in a inspection.I strongly suggest that you have seprate binders for every Machine labels your binders with correct serisl numbers. I know that this is actualy alot more work than exspected but believe me inspectors love to see that you are on top of your stuff. When a Inspector wants to look at your paper for a specific Machine He/she does not have a bunch a papers to flip through. 2.Culture's, be sure that you have your cultures and water analysis for every machine. Be sure that you are up to date on all your cultures all it takes is for one culture that was not done and if you had a culture that came back bad make sure that you documented the actions you took to make the situation better. You never want to leave any blank spaces in you documentation no answer put N/A. 3.Remember for every RO and every Machine Must have a seprate binder don't forget to put a section in every binder for your culture results for that specific machine. 3. PM, Electrical Leakage, Disinfection stickers so everytime you pm a machine or disinfect or perform electrical leakage test on a machine you would put what ever sticker applies write the date it was done and when it is due. They likte to see this as well.Anymore qustions email me at jay_hlguin@yahoo.com
