Is there any commercial spill kit for renalin?

We sprinkle lots of sodium bicarbonate powder on our spills..... works for the small ones really well. and then just wash up with water and mop.

For larger ones, (we've never had one) we have 30 kilos of bicarb in buckets to pour over the spill from a barrel.

When we looked into it, we couldn't find any commercially available kits.

We purchased rubber gloves, appron and face shield from Lab Safety Supply. We also keep some single use packets of bicarb powder for small spills. We put it all in a gym bag stored in the reuse room.

If I remember correctly, small spills are treated with bicarb powder which will cause a basic acid-base reaction and neutralize the renalin. Large spills are considered a HAZMAT situation and are mitigated by the fire dept.

Never had a "large" spill but it can be hazardous for anyone breathing the fumes; renalin is a mucosal membrane irritant and I've even heard of allergic reactions to the fumes alone.

I do suggest using powdered bicarb instead of liquid concentrate; it will neutralize the renalin better and if you use enough it's like using kitty litter on a spill, making a paste that's easier to clean up. Finally mop with soap and water, no bleach! or ammonia products. They can react with residual renalin and produce Cl2 gas, aka mustard gas. not good.

Also, never use a wet-vac which would turn it into an aerosol.
